Bio

Chris is an abstract artist working mostly in oil paint. HIs paintings depict America thruogh people, machines and landscape scenes in present time and in scenes from the past.

His paintings use color and shapes to depict energy, mood and perception by blending geometric shapes merging with organic and fluid lines to create a narrative. His work often includes semi hidden figures and themes.

The use of neutral colors in his figures is used to allow all viewes to relate to the figures in the work. In some cases he will use a diverse pallet of skin tones on a single figure. The often complex layout of the paintings is used to show the complexity of our daily lives and the moments we take to escape them. This complexity also allows the viewer to see, and imagine other scenes in the piece. As well, Chris’ goal is to cause the viewer to stop and stare, to get lost in the painting.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2018, Chris uses his studio practice as a full time career and a form of creative therapy. He constantly pushes his boundaries by making each new piece more complex than the last. He loves painting Americana and uses his therapeutic sessions to experiment with diverse styles. These projects include soft-edged Western landscapes and detailed pen-and-ink drawings of cactus treehouses. Ultimately, Chris's art is a celebration of human connection and a testament to personal resilience.
